St. Louis Number Three
Statue of St. Louis, King of France, at the entrance of St. Louis Cemetery Number Three.
As the city continued to grow, the need for increased cemetery space also continued. The city authorized the wardens of St. Louis Cathedral to acquire land for a new cemetery in 1848, but construction did not actually begin until 1854.
The initial plan of the cemetery was for three main aisles separated by smaller alleyways (below). The original plans were extended in 1865, expanding the cemetery beyond the first two "squares" of land.

St. Louis Number Three is larger than its two predecessors combined. There are a number of notable personalities, as well as society and family tombs here, along with several tombs for priests and nuns.
