Voodoo
Beads left as an offering to Marie Laveau
St. Louis No. 1 is a Catholic cemetery, but it is also known as "the voodoo cemetery." This is because it is one of the reputed resting places of Marie Laveau, voodoo queen and priestess of fact and fiction. Of course, the story of Marie Laveau is a complex one, and the Glapion tomb in St. Louis No. 1 is only one of several locations where she may be buried.
Of course, there is more to voodoo in New Orleans, so it may well be that some of the other tombs where marks are made and offerings left are the tombs of other voodoo figures in New Orleans history.
