The Solar Cross
The top portion of the cross is carved into an equal-armed solar cross, a traditional Celtic style.
The eastern face of the solar cross. The central figure here is an Agnus Dei, or Lamb of God. The Lamb is holding a Crusader banner. The inscription surrounding the Lamb is “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” (John 14:6).
The symbols of the Four Evangelists are carved into the arms of the cross. Clockwise from the top, an angel (Matthew), a winged lion (Mark), an eagle (John), and a winged ox (Luke).
The western face. The central figure on this side is the Holy Spirit descending. The inscription is “I know that my Redeemer liveth.” (Job 19:25).
