Lafayette No. 2

Lafayette Cemetery No. 2

Lafayette No. Two is located on Washington Avenue, Saratoga St., Sixth St., and Loyola Avenue. Originally built by the city of Lafayette, it passed to the city of New Orleans along with its more-famous sibling.

This cemetery is a mess, primarily for two reasons:  First, it’s in an awful neighborhood.  The day after I shot these pictures, there was a drive-by shooting on Sixth Street.  Second, like many of the city-owned properties, there’s nobody to look after this cemetery.  It seems that “Save Our Cemeteries” hasn’t really turned its attention to Lafayette No. Two. Hopefully they (or some other volunteer group) will do so before this property is lost to the ravages of time and weather.
